It’s that time of year again when we all reflect on the past twelve months and set resolutions for the coming one.
If you’re like most people, those resolutions probably include some fitness goals. But let’s be honest, how many of us stick to our fitness resolutions?
This year, let’s make a vow to ourselves to set realistic goals that we can attain. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Make a list of all the things you want to accomplish in the new year – be specific!
One of the things on my list for the upcoming year is to take a few steps to become healthier. I plan to do so through regular exercise and living an active lifestyle.
With this goal in mind, I’m going to commit myself to make healthy meals that are both delicious and nutritious, incorporating a balance of healthy fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and vitamins in my diet.
I aim to go running or walk three times per week, with a longer session over the weekend – if possible – for when I want to go for a longer stroll or jog.
Additionally, I will dedicate at least one day every week to some form of muscle-building activity, such as rowing or strength training.
Lastly, whenever I’m feeling stressed, I’ll take advantage of healthy coping mechanisms such as going for a walk in nature or taking an afternoon yoga class.
By holding myself accountable and creating healthy habits throughout this upcoming year, I hope that come December 2023; I will have achieved all of my wellness-related goals!
Set small, attainable goals that you can realistically achieve
Setting small, attainable goals is a great way to get started on the path toward being active and exercising.
Starting out with manageable objectives is important since it can be overwhelming and even discouraging if you set the bar too high. You could begin with a goal of going for a walk or run each day for twenty minutes or joining an exercise class once a week.
When those smaller goals are met, you can slowly increase difficulty and duration until you reach something more ambitious. By breaking down exercise into more achievable objectives, success will be within reach!
Find a workout buddy who will help keep you accountable.
A consistent exercise plan is one of the most important aspects of staying healthy, and staying motivated cannot be easy when going solo.
Finding a workout buddy who will help keep you accountable is one way to ensure your exercise regimen continues, even on days when motivation is low.
Having someone to exercise with can lessen the stress associated with exercise or even make it an enjoyable shared activity.
Furthermore, joining forces with a workout buddy could increase exercise performance due to increased efforts and competition.
Whether the goal is general health or physical fitness, having an accountability partner may be just what you need to stay on track with your exercise goals while also having some fun.
Schedule your workouts into your week like any other important appointment
Working out should never be an afterthought. Schedule it each week as you would any other important appointment. That way, you have something to look forward to and won’t forget or push aside time for exercise – which is a vital part of any healthy lifestyle.
Treat your workout with personalized attention, not just as one more item on the calendar. Make sure that the intensity and amount of exercise are right for you; this will be pleasant rather than intimidating and less likely to cause injury or burnout.
Put the right motivation in place, so you’re ready to go when your alarm goes off or it’s time for your workout! After all, having a sound body and mind will benefit everything else in your life, from relationships to career aspirations.
Don’t beat yourself up if you miss a day or two – everyone has setbacks!
We all have goals and dreams that we strive to achieve, but life often gets in the way. While it’s important to remain committed to our goals and try our best, it’s perfectly okay to have setbacks along the way.
Don’t be too hard on yourself if you miss a day or two in reaching your goal – it’s natural and part of the learning process!
It’s more important to ensure that you don’t stay stuck in those setbacks and instead use the missed opportunity as motivation to do better next time.
So don’t beat yourself up for being human; remember to keep going after what you want!
Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small
Taking time to celebrate your accomplishments is an important part of staying motivated. No matter how small, these accomplishments should be acknowledged and celebrated.
Celebrating will give you a sense of accomplishment and remind you of all you can achieve. It can also inspire you to stay focused and keep striving for bigger triumphs in the future.
Whether it is a great job well done, or simply finishing a task that seemed daunting at first, don’t forget to take the time to reward your efforts. Celebrate your accomplishments, for they are reflections of effort and dedication!
If you want to make meaningful changes in the new year, start by being specific about what you want to achieve. Set small goals that you can accomplish, and find a workout buddy who will help keep you accountable.
Schedule your workouts into your week like any other important appointments, and don’t be too hard on yourself if you miss a day here or there – we all have setbacks! After a setback, do just a little better than the day before without going completely off the rails.
Finally, celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small. A few small wins will inevitably lead to the change you’re after!
